Slowly but surely the pile of books on climate change on my desk is getting bigger and bigger. The newest one laying right beside my café au lait waiting to be read, just moved in a couple of days ago: “The climate book” by Greta Thunberg.
Slowly but surely the pile of books on climate change on my desk is getting bigger and bigger. The newest one laying right beside my café au lait waiting to be read, just moved in a couple of days ago: “The climate book” by Greta Thunberg.
In fall 2022 the 500-pages-strong book was published at the same time the climate conference Sharm el-Sheikh was taking place and it did not create the medial stir that I had expected. It is possible that the tone is one reason for that, which “(appears) surprisingly mature, almost established” (translated from German) as the FAZ writes*. Another reason might be, that the authors cited in the climate book are mainly quite prominent like the climatologists Friederike Otto and Stefan Rahmstorf, the economists Thomas Piketty and Nicholas Stern, Margaret Atwood, and activist Naomi Klein. The “frame story” was written by Greta Thunberg and is – according to the critics – quite moralizing, overstepping some boundaries, and partially “political kitsch” (translated from German) **. Others claim it is a great work of reference that “(leaves one) bewildered, but also confident” (translated from German)**. All in all, it sounds like a wise idea to read it yourself and to form your own opinion. We would love to hear about your personal opinion in the comments.
