I am probably the last person who should talk about coffee with butter – since I don’t like butter. But because bulletproof coffee is not supposed to taste like butter, I try it anyway. A job is a job.
But first things first: What exactly is bulletproof coffee?
A coffee with butter and MCT oil. MCT oil is a so called medium-chain triglycerides oil. Vegetable fats always consist of a combination of different stearic acids, like medium and long chain Triglycerides (Long chain triglycerides with more than 10 carbon atoms). Naturally, you find MCTs only in milk fat (butter), palm oil, and coconut oil. And they increase the energy expenditure more than other dietary fats do.* That is why bulletproof-coffee is supposed to have a stimulatory effect and raises your energy level. Okay…?
Some people drink it to lose weight (keto diet). Which sounds odd at first. But on their website, the German Nutrition Society lists some studies which describe the weight reducing effect of MTC.* I did not try it (for the known reasons), but one thing is certain: The bulletproof coffee makes you feel very full, so you do not need to worry about hunger pangs. So far, so good.
But now to the important question: How does bulletproof coffee taste?
Try it yourself. Here comes the recipe.
Brew the coffee as usual. Then, add MCT oil and butter and mix it IMMEDIATELY (I used a hand mixer). After about 30 seconds you get a light brown drink with a foam layer on top: The bulletproof coffee. The be enjoyed it right away.
How did you like it? Leave us a comment.
(By the way, it is not my thing. Does that surprise anyone?)
