- Commitment
Being better.
Change isn’t easy for people (or companies). Deciding only to produce organic and/or Demeter coffee is one thing. But actually doing it is something else altogether.
Karsten Suhr
It takes a good three years just to convert the soil from conventional to organic. In other words, most small plantation farmers need help to do this – and in many ways, from botanical and geological to structural.
Our assistance always focuses on locally available structures, such as universities and non-governmental organizations, and is geared towards long-term cooperation. This means
guaranteed purchase at
fixed Fairtrade prices.
Or the acquisition of machinery. Or spontaneous financial aid, for example, for building schools in Papua New Guinea. Or pre-financing the Demeter-certified coffee harvest in Peru complete with the construction of a new coffee preparation facility with drying areas on La Chacra D’Dago farm.
Through this, we hope to convince and support more farmers to convert to biodynamic cultivation in order to offer our customers more of this rare Demeter-certified coffee.
And then we’ve also got our commitments to more sustainable packaging, CO2 savings and carbon offsetting – to name but a few. So, you see, we’ve quite a bit of work to do – and we’re on it!
