Tatata-taaa!

Funny story: Beethoven was probably one of the first – if not the first – barista ever. Apparently, he attached great importance to the preparation of coffee.

Perfectionist par excellence.

Exactly 60 beans, no more and no less, he personally counted, grinded, and prepared in a glass coffee maker – today known as Siphon. Interestingly, 60 beans weigh about 7 grams, which is only a little bit less than what you use for an espresso today. But since it is assumed that the caffeine content was higher 230 years ago, this matches pretty well.

By the way, Beethoven was not only picky about the preparation, he also was a great coffee aficionado. The biographer Alfred Schindler wrote:

It seems that coffee was his essential nourishment.

We totally understand that, we feel the same way.
